Spring Break 2011—Amazement Square

  A hands-on children’s science museum, in other words…AWESOME!

Cows were milked and tractors were ridden.  We sent lots of  golf balls went flying down ramps that were there and ramps we made.

We rode chariots and see-sawed in the ancient civilizations.

Bateaux boats floated down the James River through the levies and in thunderstorms!

 

In the paint room, coolest room ever, the girls drew self portraits.  Lucy’s is above.  The room gets shut down throughout the day to get hosed out so everyone has a chance to make a masterpiece!

This was a door to the outside. Let’s just say that Laney thought she was an employee :)

Spring Break 2011—Great Grandparents

One of the main reasons we planned this trip was to see my “great” grandparents and for the girls to see their great grandparents.   The last time Doris saw Laney, she was just a baby and the last time Shir and Papa saw Laney she was still in my belly!  It really meant a lot to me that the girls got to spend time getting to know their great grandparents and also great aunts and uncles as well.  With Doris in her yard

We spent time at the park with Doris, Helen and Phyliss.

We walked across a bridge over the James River to Percival’s Island.

And no trip would be complete without playing with Crazy Tommy!

We enjoyed a yummy dinner at the Depot with Shir & Papa. 

Spring Break 2011—Best Friends Forever

Our first day in Virginia was great.  The girls warmed right up to Doris and acted like they lived in her house.   It was nice to have our first day there just be a lazy day.  All four of us needed the chance to recoup from the drive.  We  had lunch with ShirShir and then enjoyed a catnap in the afternoon. 

That evening we went to hang out with my very best friend from growing up, Kristy, and her two kids, Emma and Luke.  Kristy and I met in the 4th grade and have been close friends ever since.  She is the type of friend that you don’t have to talk to every day or even every week…you just always pick up where you left off.   The type of friend that you share those crazy moments with that you will never forget.  The type of friend that even though you are half a country apart you still buy the exact same comforter and sheets for your daughter. 

We had a great time playing outside…well, Kevin did a lot of the playing while Kristy and I played chit-chat catch-up.  The 4 kids got along wonderfully, enough so that Lucy and Emma have already planned their trip out to Kansas to see us!     

 

 

 

 

 

 

Spring Break 2011—The Drive Out

Our family trips usually revolve around baseball.  Baseball has taken us to many different places, places that we would never go to without the game, and these places have given us tons of different experiences.  Since we would travel so much during the season, going other places was just never a priority for Kevin and I.  We love being at home, and so do our girls.  However, we decided that we wanted to take the girls to Virginia over Spring Break to see my extended family.  We mapped it all out and decided to drive.

2 kids + 18 hours one way = lots of love for the DVD play and DS. 

We broke the trip up by stopping in St. Louis at Kev’s brother’s  house.  They moved to the area a little of a year ago and the girls and I still hadn’t been to visit.  It was great fun to hang out with Dave, Talena and Harlow.  Harlow is a  year younger than Laney and the 3 girls had a blast together.  You would think they played together everyday by watching them.  The girls loved blowing bubbles on the patio.  Laney had gotten a gummy stuck to her shorts and Harlow was just hot, so that is the reason for the missing clothes!  This was about the only cute picture I got!

The next day we drove 12 hours straight to Virginia.  We only stopped twice.  That sounds crazy but the girls were rock stars!  Unbelievably, neither one of them slept the whole way! And never once did we hear “Are we there yet?'”  Ok…so maybe I said it a time or two.
