13.1

Have you ever done something just to be able to say you did it?  Well, about 3 months ago, I told Kevin one night that I was going to run a half marathon just to say I did it.  And guess what…..I actually did it!!!  I have ran more in the last 12 weeks than I probably have in my whole life combined and it really wasn’t so bad.  It is such an awesome feeling to know that I can run 13.1 miles without stopping.  It took a lot of determination, a little (probably a lot) of whining and a great friend to run with, but this past Sunday I ran in the Wichita Half Marathon.half1 Becky and I ran all our long runs together! I couldn’t and wouldn’t have done it without her! This is about 2 minutes prior to the start and we were FREEZING.  It didn’t take us long to warm up!

DSCN1482 At the 4 mile mark.  Right past here, we got passed by the winner already heading the other way!half3 Racing to the finish line.  We finished in 2 hours 7 minutes and 50  seconds.  Well under our goal of 2 and a half hours!

Post race with our medals for finishing!

half4 Thanks honey for all your support!  And for listening to me whine about having to run, and then whine some more about being sore!

Kindergarten Roundup

I cant' believe that 5 years ago I was pregnant with Lucy. I was nervous about having a baby and being a good mom. At that time, I guess I always thought that she would always just be a baby.

Now I've blinked and few times and she's gearing up for Kindergarten. I can't believe it.

Yesterday we attended Kindergarten Roundup to enroll her in school and for the district to assess her abilities.

I was a nervous wreck. While telling a co-worker why I would be leaving right after school, tears filled my eyes. I mean I was going to enroll my baby in KINDERGARTEN. I was worried if I had all the right papers and if she would be cooperative and if I would hold it all together. I think some of my nervousness rubbed off on her.

The first thing they asked her to do was get her picture taken. MELTDOWN. She wanted no part of that what so ever. Thank goodness Kevin was able to come with us because I honestly just wanted to cry with her. She settled down pretty quickly and went off to "play" with the teachers.

While she played, we filled out paperwork. Lots of paperwork. I feel like I wrote our phone numbers over and over and over again. I will be very upset if the school district can never get ahold of us because they have at least 5 phone numbers on about 5 different papers.

When it was all said and done, they went over the assessment they gave Lucy. I was in awe. Lucy scored in the 99%ile of the test as a 4 year old. She scored lower on some areas only because you can't get the maximum amount of points as a 4 year old. :) The lady going over this with us was pretty impressed.

And we are quite proud. We know that she is a smart cookie, but to hear someone else affirm that is, well, it's pretty cool.

So for now, I am going to forget about the fact that in 4 months she will have her first day of Kindergarten and enjoy every moment with both my babies. Because as everyone says, "they grow up too fast."

Easter Weekend 2010

Whew.  What a weekend.  All the fun started on Friday afternoon when Kevin and Papa began assembling the girls’ new swing set….and that carried on to Saturday…and Sunday.  In between the beginning and end of the assembly I ran a 1oK Easter race and finished in under an hour so was very happy with that!  We also got a visit from the Easter bunny and had an egg hunt!  At this point, I’m too tired to even think about what else to write other than the fact that Lucy and Laney are IN LOVE with their swing set….the smiles and the “weees” make it all worth it!
