Our budding artist

I was packing boxes/doing laundry/trying to get Lucy to take nap today, when I noticed the dry-erase easel in her room. She was somewhat playing around it, and I saw the picture above. I about freaked out. She had never drawn a face before, and I wasn't even sure if she did that one at first. Kevin wasn't home, so I ran to get the camera to snap a quick picture. Lucy was getting ready to erase it, so I took the picture while holding her hand down and she was crying "no don't take a picture"

As soon as Kevin got home, I got the camera and asked if he drew it, or did Lucy really do it. (She never would tell me.) He said that they practiced the other day for about 20 minutes, but she never did one all by herself and that he was not responsible for this one!

Snow Day

As a teacher, there is nothing better than hearing your phone ring instead of the dreaded alarm clock at 5:45 a.m. It can only mean one thing:

SCHOOL'S CANCELLED!

Such a great feeling to lean over, turn off your alarm, then roll back over for at least another hour, or in my case today, 3, of sleep! Lucy came and snuggled, and kicked, for a bit before we decided to get up and eat breakfast.

Lucy is ready to go out and play, as long as she doesn't fall over in the snow again. If you haven't read that post, click here. She even decided that she needs something warm to wear, and went and got a sweatshirt. I guess she has figured out that dresses are cute, not warm.

Ribby is the only one who really enjoys the snow. She sits at the back door and drools to go out and run like a wild hyena. She turns circles, buries her face, and will stay out forever. I think the only thing in her mind better than snow, is water.

Our plans for the day include staying inside and getting ready for our move. With all this snow on the ground, we are pretty much stuck inside, so I guess we should make the most of our time!

I need my mo-gert

Lucy has discovered the fascinating ability to open the refrigerator. I can only imagine how many times it has been opened since lunch time, all because of mo-gert. For some reason, that is how yogurt gets pronounced. Her process is very predictable.
1. She decides she needs it, she opens the fridge.
2. Takes it to her table, has one bite, decides she is done.
3. Back to the fridge, where she puts the container and spoon.
4. Repeat process about 2 dozen more times.

This has seriously gone on for 4 hours. Good thing we are moving in 2 weeks and she will have to re-learn the process with the new fridge.

Just to add for amusement, she brought me some colored pencils today and told me to put them away because they weren't interesting enough.

Girls Night Out

I have met some wonderful friends through the step aerobics class I take at the YMCA, and last night we decided that we needed a girl's night. We usually go out for coffee on Saturday mornings after step, but lately it has been hard for us to get together due to kids, sickness, and just life in general. Kristen, is pregnant with her first, and wanted some help registering, so we just made a night of it!

Missy (mom of 3 boys), Becky (mom of 4 boys), Kristen, and I all met up to eat at Texas Roadhouse, mainly because of the yummy bread and butter! You can't get enough of that stuff! Even calling ahead, we still had to wait for 30 minutes, but in the end it was worth every minute. After lots of food and much needed adult conversation, we decided we better head over to Babies R Us.

Once there, we were on a mission to make sure that we got Kristen registered for all the stuff every new mom desperately needs. We didn't get too far! We managed a swing, bouncy seat, car seat and snap and go. I think Becky managed to scan a few other things as well! It was great to see all the new stuff out there, and unfortunately, unless we have a boy (find out Mon) I don't need much of anything. Of course, I think you can never have too many strollers or diaper bags :)

It is so great to have found friends that share common interests and are at the same points in their lives as I am. And, after so many years of meeting wonderful people through baseball, it is nice that we all live in the same town! Thanks girls for a great evening!

Lovin' Life

After nap time, it is snack time. Lucy came out of her room, said she wanted a snack, grabbed the box of Wheat Thins and she was gone. I gave her a few minutes before I checked on her. She was living the high life eating her snack on our bed, watching Noggin. Doesn't she look comfy? Oh, the life of a 2 year old....as Kev says "tough gig."

p.s. I wish I would have taken a picture of all the crumbs in our bed before I brushed them off. She may have been cozy eating her snack, but Kev and I won't be cozy sleeping with it! Might have to change the sheets again today (I just did it yesterday!)

Family Fun

Starting last Thursday, we have had all sorts of family in town. My dad's side of the family came to town for their annual visit from Virginia. Dad's mom, aunt, sister and her husband all were here for the weekend, and also my brother, wife and their 2 kids were up for the weekend staying with us! All together 10 adults and 3 kids!

I thought Lucy might be a little apprehensive towards the relatives she hasn't seen too much, but she jumped right in and was loving all the new found attention! It was so nice to spend some quality time with our family members!

The cousins had a great time playing together. As usual, there was lots of running and rowdiness, but they play so good together, it is easy to overlook that. I thought I might have to go buy a few pairs of earplugs though!

Today, Kevin's brother came to town for business, or play, haven't figured that out! So far, all they've done is play the Wii, well when Lucy will let Dave! Lucy is all about her Dave playing with her, and watching movies with her. She has also been somewhat of the wild child, couldn't have anything to do with the big bag of chocolate Talena sent her!!

I will post pictures later, in all the chaos this weekend, I think I left my camera at mom's house!

Self Service Dog Wash

To put in short and simple, Ribby smelled like a dog today. We HATE giving her a bath at home during the winter because the bathroom ends up looking like a hurricane went through, and we've yet to find a groomer that does a good job the 2nd time we bring her in. Kevin remembered that the pet store near our house has a self service dog wash. All you need to bring is your dog, they provide everything else: the water, shampoo, conditioner, towels and even an air dryer! It was great! A giant stainless steel tub, at the right height provided the perfect place to bathe the dog, and some good entertainment for Lucy. All of this for $10, and we didn't even have to clean up all the leftover dog hair! The only thing that would make it better was if it was automatic!

What's Going on

I feel like I haven't done a great job blogging lately, so I guess it's time to update.

  • Lucy told me to come here this morning before I left for the gym. I went over to her and she said "Let me zip your jacket all the way so you don't get cold." I thought that was what I was supposed to do for her!
  • Our house is moving right along. The painters should be done this week, then it is on to the flooring. We are hoping to move in the first week in February.
  • Along with moving, packing is horrendous. I just want to close my eyes and have all of our stuff magically make its way to the new house. Just when I think I've made some progress in a room, I turn around and see MORE stuff. Where does it all come from? And the worse part of all, I haven't even touched any of Lucy's things, and she has more than anyone!
  • And my biggest news and vent all in one. We don't have our sonogram to find out gender of the baby until the 28th!! That is 2 MORE weeks. We went to the doctor on New Year's Eve and just saw the nurse, and I tried my best to persuade her to move up the date, using the ploy of "we're building a house and I need to pick out a paint color for the baby's room." Nurse didn't buy into that, in fact, even said that we probably wouldn't be able to tell if we had the sonogram any earlier. That is SO NOT TRUE!! Lucy was due on 6/26, her sonogram was 1/24 (yes, I checked the date). This one is due 6/14 and the sonogram is 1/28!!! Lucy was due 12 days after this one, and her sonogram was 4 days earlier!!! I just keep telling myself 2 more weeks, but time seems to have slowed to a halt. The one time that I truly want time to fly, and it doesn't!

Princess Lucy

Lucy has a growing collection of "magic wands" from her princess nightgown collection and also a growing imagination. Yesterday, I was playing tennis on the Wii and she comes up to me with her wand, swats me on the behind with it and says "You will be a good girl Mommy" and repeats it over and over as Kevin and I both are cracking up at her!
*********************************************************
Other notable Lucy doings:
*Today on the way to the Y to workout, she was drinking her milk and stated, "maybe we can
get some colder milk when we get home." I guess her milk wasn't cold enough for her tastebuds!
*Lucy has decided that one of her new favorite toys is a twister, aka a screwdriver. She likes her twister so much, that she actually slept with it last night! I love how she has used the motion of using a screwdriver to name it!
