Green Thumb

Lucy has been begging to plant flowers lately, ever since we started making trips to Lowe's to get things to water our lawn! (Note the green grass in the background, we finally got GRASS) It was a beautiful afternoon here, so I put down mulch during Lucy's nap and then we were off to pick out flowers. She picked out everything herself....impatiens, gerber daisy, pansies, petunias and 2 other things that I can't remember. (This should not come to a surprise to anyone) I had gotten her a little shovel and some Dora gardening gloves on my earlier trip to get mulch. She loved wearing the gloves and digging around in the dirt.

Ok, so on to actually planting the flowers. Lucy was so excited on the way home, stayed excited until she realized that her gloves would have to get dirty. Dirty hands and Lucy just dont' go together! So, she told me where to put the flowers in the pot, and she hung out until it was time to water the flowers.

New Games

Princess Mommy Game

It started a few weeks ago, at my parent's house, she would tuck me in and tell me "Night Night Sweetie" leave the room, come back before I could fall asleep (this was the bad part) and wake me up by saying "Time to wake up sweetie. Time for breakfast." This went on for about an hour. Each time, I would try to get her to stay gone for longer so that maybe, just maybe, I could sneak in a cat nap. I think I actually fell asleep for about 20 minutes one time!

The game took on a whole new face the other week when I began going through baby stuff, trying to get ready for Laney's arrival. Lucy found the bibs and bottles, and decided that now Mommy Baby and Daddy Baby needed to be fed, bib and all. For what it's worth, wearing a baby bib as an adult is not very comfortable. Kev's bib in the above pic states "I love Mommy." At least Lucy found the one boyish looking one for him.

There is one VERY important rule that the babies must follow in this game though. You must call Lucy "Princess Mommy." If you call her anything else, she makes you repeat it until you call her Princess Mommy.

Ballet Class

The latest game that has popped up this week out of Lucy's imagination is having ballet class. Of course she is always the teacher and has to be called "Ballet Teacher" or "Princess Ballet Teacher" or as the other day it was something along the lines of "Princess Birthday Party Ballet Teacher Show." She of course must be wearing a dress and some sort of shoes with sparkles on them, and of course she has to pick out the most uncomfortable shoes in my closet.

In ballet class we step up and down, march, twirl, jump in circles, point our toes and then to end the show, you are supposed to go down to one knee. Fortunately, I've convinced Lucy that if Mommy does that, she isn't getting back up!

This Little Piggy

Lucy's version:

This little piggy went to the market
This little piggy stayed home
This little piggy ate SONIC
This little piggy had none
And this little piggy went
wee-wee-wee all the home!

Chewed Out

I just got chewed out by my 2 1/2 year old daughter. I mean she was MAD at Mama. Lucy and I were on our way home from errands and the conversation in the car went something like this:

Lucy: "Mom, can I have a cookie when we get home?"

Me: "You sure can, and then we can go to bed."

"I want one of my favorite cookies."

"Which ones are your favorite?" Knowing that we might be out of her favs, I was a little hesitant.

"The ones with the chocolate dots."

"You mean the ones with the chocolate stripes?"

"Yes"

"Honey, we are all out of those. We can get some more at the store tomorrow."

With her finger pointing at me Lucy yell, "IT'S NOT MY FAULT. IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT MAMA. YOU ATE THEM ALL." Repeat this statement about 5 times, followed by turning her face so she thought I couldn't see her, but having her eyes give me the evil look.

My response to this scene. I was just trying to hide my giggles!

Lawrence

We made a quick trip to Lawrence and back yesterday to attend the Lawrence High baseball game. Kevin's jersey was being dedicated at the game yesterday afternoon, which was not a beautiful day. With the game being cancelled Tuesday afternoon because of poor field conditions (which still existed Wed) and the threat of rain all afternoon, we headed north on the turnpike around 3 pm. By 5:45, we were at the ballpark, for the hopefully 6 pm first pitch. We waited and waited, and finally around 6:15, they introduced Kev and dropped a banner down under the scoreboard depicting his jersey number and name. He then threw out the first pitch as the rain drops starting falling. We left and went to dinner with his mom, step-dad, brother and his fiancee, where it continued to rain. By 8:15 pm, the rain had stopped and we headed home and were all nicely tucked in by 11:30 pm.

The Lawrence Journal World did a very nice story on Kev here.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk

Lucy sported her Jayhawk shirt yesterday in support of Kev's beloved KU basketball team! They somehow managed to fend off Memphis for the National Championship! Go Hawks!

Ice Cream Truck

On Friday night, we had just gotten back from taking Lucy and Claire to dinner. When we got out of the car, we heard the most fabulous sound, the sound that only means summer is near....THE ICE CREAM TRUCK!!! The truck came right in front of our driveway and we soon had a crowd of neighborhood kiddos waiting their turn to order a treat! Lucy wanted cookie ice cream and Claire ordered a Cherry Bomb Pop! It was such a beautiful evening that we were able to enjoy the ice cream by sitting on the front steps. I didn't get any pics of the girls eating theirs because I was too busy eating, I mean helping, Lucy with hers!
