Spring Break 2010

What a great week we had.  Lucy was so excited that she had the week off of school and that Mommy did too!  While the weather wasn’t all that “springish” we still managed to get in lots of great fun!  We decorated eggs, made beads for necklaces, had a friend over to play and enjoyed the much anticipated visit from the cousins! One morning I went to work at school before the girls got up and I got in trouble when I arrived home…"Mom, you ARE NOT supposed to go to school over Spring Break.” 

Since Claire and Landon have their spring a week later than ours we made the most out of the 3 three days we had together.  Saturday, the first day of spring, included a small accumulation of snow.  That didn’t stop us though, we managed to head out to lunch and then had a great time at a local toy store….Thanks Nana and Papa for the cool stuff!!!!  That night the boys headed to Monster Truck Jam, Kevin stayed at home and watched his Jayhawks lose, and the girls went to Cracker Barrel. 

Sunday was Claire’s 7th birthday! We celebrated with Nana burgers and rainbow cupcakes! The kids then played at our house all afternoon!  Lucy ended up falling asleep at 7:45 on the way home!!!! 

Monday was nice out, so the girls and kids headed to the zoo.  What a great time!  All four enjoyed running from place to place and pointing out cool and sometimes gross things!!!  We decided it would be best to say our goodbyes from there and I think Nana, Meggy and I could have all cried.  Landon, Lucy and Claire never want to say goodbye to each other.  As we were walking out of the zoo, Lucy wouldn’t even look back when Claire kept yelling bye to her.  She finally said “ I wish they didn’t live so far away and lived near us.” When I asked Lucy that night what her favorite part of the day was, she said “being with my cousins.” Her least favorite part, “telling her cousins bye.”  I think it’s safe to say that no matter how many miles are between these cousins, they are always going to be the best of friends. This was the “Lucy Sandwich” as we were saying goodbye.

My Projects

For the last month or so I have been in “project” mode.  It all started with a diaper cake that I made for Sarah’s (Kevin’s sister) baby shower. Once we spray painted the “G” I was hooked.  Since then, I have spray painted pencil holders, picture frames and candle holders, oh and a board from a project you’ll see below.   After I conquered the spray paint, I  went for regular paint and made these: I painted 4 white canvases to match some of the colors in the girls’ bathroom and then had them put their handprints on them.  I love it and can’t wait to see it on the wall!  After this, I discovered Mod Podge and I’m in love.  I have searched and searched for a picture that shows the “before” of this sign.  It was cream and had “Kitchen” written in green.  It worked in our old house, but not so much now.  So I found this great idea for my laundry room and turned the sign into this: The girls’ socks are constantly getting mixed up and there are always oddball socks just lying around the laundry room.  Now they will hang where I can see them and hopefully reacquaint them with their match!

I’m not sure what project I will attempt next.  I have a few things that I want to do for our classroom this summer, but for now I will keep on searching other blogs for new and creative ideas!

Easter Eggs

I really dislike the idea of  dying Easter eggs.  It is messy and stinky.  I came across this idea in a magazine and just adapted it to make it less messy and easier for Lucy.

Time for a Break

It was 45 degrees (maybe) and rainy and windy today, yet our Spring Break from school has now begun. Seems kinda weird, but Lucy and I both are ready for a week off and Kevin and Laney are excited too. I have big plans for our break....cleaning and crafting mainly, but really just excited not to have a schedule. No school, no gymnastics, no nothing!!!!

Here's a quick recap on what we have all been up to lately.

Laney got the stomach bug this week. It was so sad to see her point to her belly and whine. She didn't eat much at all Wednesday afternoon or Thursday, but today she has done nothing but eat. She bounced back pretty quickly and has been running wild today! Her new thing is to tell people "no, no" and point her finger at you. She has also decided that Ribby's name is now "Dog" It cracks us up to hear her yell "dog, dog" when she wants Rib to follow her!

Lucy got her hair cut this week a little past her shoulders. It amazes me how just a few inches can make her look so much older. Everything she does is a constant reminder of how big she is getting. We are working on getting her to go to bed better at night. So far it's not working very good. After spring break "Bedtime Bootcamp" is starting up!

Kevin finishes his basketball league and starts his softball season all this week. His softball is now his "fix" of playing. He pretty much has his team set for the Wingnuts and is ready for season to start. Spring Training doesn't start until May 1st and their first game is around the middle of May!

I have started some new adventures. I have a new found love for Mod Podge and for spray painting things. I have covered diaper boxes in scrapbook paper to make cute storage boxes, and have spray painted cheap black picture frame in oil rubbed bronze. Right now I am in the midst of making a "lost sock" board for the laundry room. (I will post some pictures here soon) I have also decided that I am going to run a half marathon at the end of April. I am not really sure why I am doing this because I don't enjoy running so much, but it gives me a workout goal.

In like a lion….

March is supposed to come in like a lion right?  Here in Kansas, surprisingly enough, the last few days have been gorgeous.  This afternoon the girls and I headed out to play.  It’s amazing how quickly grumpiness (due to a short nap) and severe cases of cabin fever can be cured.  We rode bikes, went to the park, played tag and threw the ball for Ribby.

Growing up is hard…

…on Mom and Dad.

In the last week I have made Lucy’s appointment to enroll for Kindergarten, attended her (last) preschool parent-teacher conference, and she has moved up to do gymnastics with the “big girls.” I think I am still absorbing all of this, or maybe just denying most of it. The kindergarten enrollment is one that I am in denial about so I will skip right over it until it actually occurs (April 8).

Her parent teacher conference was great, as expected. She loves to go to school and always comes home talking. She has her favorite friends, Maci and Cader (a boy….gasp). She can do all the things that she should be doing plus some more….letters, numbers, shapes, colors. She knows our address and phone number, and Nana’s too (and she loves to call Nana now). Lucy knows that my name is Lindsey and she told her teacher that her daddy’s name was Hoopy.

Ms. Lori, her gymnastics teacher, decided Lucy needed a bit more of a challenge and moved her up to the “big girl” class. Her other class was a little on the rowdy side and Lucy was one of the few kids who listened and behaved. I think that Lucy’s behavior played a big part in her moving up. In her new class, Lucy is by far the smallest, and probably the youngest. Some of the girls are almost 8!!! Lucy was a nervous wreck while we were watching Laney’s class. She kept asking me questions like “Mom, do you think I can do class,” “How old are the other girls?”, “Will we still get stamps and suckers?” Poor thing, I was a nervous wreck too. My hands were all sweaty; I just wanted her to do well and have fun. And she did both!!!
